Summary

The fifteenth amendment to the Fundamental Law of Hungary enshrines at constitutional level that the birth sex of a person is a biological given, which can only be male or female, and the Hungarian legal system does not recognise the possibility of changing one's birth sex. The amendment reinforces the constitutional protection of the traditional family model, which it defines as the natural union of a man and a woman. The purpose of the amendment to the Fundamental Law is to preserve national and social identity, as well as to ensure that children are raised in a clear legal and moral environment.
