Summary
The decree regulates the measures necessary in the matter of approximately 35 million euros, 40 million dollars in cash and nine kilograms of gold bars transported by Ukrainian nationals and seized in Hungary on 5 March 2026. The National Tax and Customs Administration initiated criminal proceedings, as the origin, destination and legal title of the transportation of the assets could not be clarified, and furthermore the manner of transportation and the identity of the persons concerned raised national security risks. The purpose of the government decree is the satisfactory investigation of the origin and destination of the retained assets, the possible connections of the transporters with criminal or terrorist organisations, as well as the effects on the national security of Hungary.
