Summary
The decree of the President of the Republic provides for the conferral of Kossuth and Széchenyi Prizes, which are awarded on the basis of the Fundamental Law and Act XII of 1990, upon the proposal of the Government, for outstanding cultural and artistic achievements. The decree awards the Grand Kossuth Prize to György Kurtág and Miklós Melocco for their life's work, while the Kossuth Prize is awarded to, among others, Gábor János Csupó, Mónika Fischl, Tibor Gáspár, Levente Gyöngyösi, András Kisfaludy, and János Lackfi. The distinctions recognise creative and performing careers of exceptional value to Hungary in the fields of music, fine arts, film, theatre, and literature.

On the basis of Article 9, paragraph (4), point f) of the Fundamental Law, and Section 5, paragraph (1) of Act XII of 1990 on the Kossuth Prize and the Széchenyi Prize — upon the proposal of the Government —
to György Kurtág, Wolf Prize laureate, two-time Kossuth Prize laureate and three-time Ferenc Erkel Prize laureate composer and pianist, eminent artist and merited artist
in recognition of his life's work of exceptionally valuable and epoch-making significance for Hungary, his musical compositions renewing the noblest traditions of Hungarian classical music in a groundbreaking manner, his art exerting great influence worldwide, and his teaching work of defining importance for generations of artists,
to Miklós Melocco, artist of the nation, Kossuth Prize and Mihály Munkácsy Prize laureate sculptor, merited artist, holder of the Hungarian Corvin Chain, full member of the Hungarian Academy of Arts
in recognition of his life's work of exceptionally valuable and epoch-making significance for Hungary, and his creative artistry renewing the language of sculpture with monumental force and profound humanist content, reflecting the unity of tradition and modern spirit
